I don't think they really put their relationship into words - Spike wouldn't say something like "Twilight is my mom" or whatever. Things just are the way they are.
I think of them as definitely being too familial to ship, but past that it's pretty nonspecific.

Yeah, The show is pretty vague on there relationship in my opinion. I also agree that shipping them is like shipping AJ and Big Mac... Ugh just weird...
